Periodontitis, unlike gingivitis, cannot be cured completely, but it can be stopped and kept under control. This requires regular treatment at the clinic as well as strict oral hygiene following the periodontist's individual recommendations. How is periodontal treatment carried out?
The first step is a thorough periodontal examination (clinical and X-ray) and an explanation of the further course of treatment. You will be informed about the use of the necessary oral hygiene products, and will be motivated to do it regularly and carefully, since plaque is the cause of periodontal disease. Periodontology is often accompanied by incurable teeth, in such cases, extraction is necessary. The periodontist will recommend a specialist to continue teeth restoration. This will be followed by removal of soft plaque, supragingival and subgingival calculus, removal of the infected root cementum and curettage of gum pockets. After 6-8 weeks, the result of the main stage of treatment, the state of oral hygiene, the need and extent of periodontal surgical treatment are determined.
