When a patient needs a major dental procedures, usual x-rays cannot provide the dentist with all the information they need about the patient's dental and bite conditions, as well as the overall health of his\her jaw. In such cases, a digital panoramic x-ray or orthopantomogram is needed, which, compared to a conventional x-ray, allows the dentist to obtain more extensive and detailed information about the general health of the patient’s teeth and oral cavity and makes it possible to frame an optimal treatment plan.
An orthopantomogram should be carried out before:
- surgical dental procedures - before extraction and implantation of teeth;
- dental prosthetics;
- orthodontic treatment;
- dental treatment.
